I'll note first that the wiki entry is prone to making her and others sound more irritable than they actually were in the comics. It also takes some information from sources that don't match the comics, like the line denigrating Mon Cal women.
Ibtisam joined Rogue Squadron as someone with a degree of experience already, but her experiences had largely prepared her for black and white situations with straightforwards goals and little ambiguity. The Rogues are often given much more complicated missions with more mutable parameters.
The first mission she was on was thorny and political. Being herself part of a rebel organization led by charismatic royals Ibtisam supported the plucky rebels and disdained the backstabbing nobility, but things turned out much more complicated than that. Her second mission involved trying to find a lost spacecraft only to find that some of its crew had planned everything in an attempt to take on strange powers. On her third she and a wingman were separated from the squadron and temporarily joined a team of allied commandos. A later mission had the squadron compelled to accept as a new member a freshly-defected enemy fighter of great renown. Almost every mission involved using skills besides piloting.
All along there was a common thread about flexibility. Things can go dramatically wrong, people who seem like allies can be mislead or outright traitorous, enemies can change. The picture of how things seem and ideally should be isn't a good guide for life. It's more important to be able to handle the unexpected and trust in your comrades. Even if you don't like members of your squadron you have to care for them.
During this period her relationship with Nrin was changing too. It was contentious at first. He tended to have a more tradition-based stance than her so of course they debated, and some of their species rivalry crept in. Friendly by nature, Ib realized that was happening and hated it, but didn't like to back down. Friends participated in their debates and joked that the two would either kill each other or get married.
She was impressed with Nrin's efforts escaping an ambush and freeing her and the others, and started teasing him with some edge - he was so serious even off duty. Very brave, but extremely standoffish even when she tried to engage in a more friendly way, honestly telling him that she wanted him to make it. Still, she sensed him softening. Friends told her about how he worried when she crashed and was with the commandos. Ibtisam told Nrin she didn't want to fight.
By the end their relationship is gentler and tentatively romantic, although they keep starting to disagree about something and stepping back. Honestly I'm not sure they would have worked out as a couple given longer, but they would have been good friends even if they hadn't.
