APPLICATIONS

PLAYER COUNT: 18/55

QUEUE

Subnautica runs on a player cap of 55 players as we feel this is the maximum number of players we can handle with this size of mod team. Applicants can submit at any time, but applications will not be judged until there are fewer than 55 players in the game. Applications will be judged on a first-come, first-serve basis. To be sure that applicants are still interested when a slot is available, we will contact them with a request to reply within 72 hours regarding their interest.

Please send us your application as a comment to this page! The subject line should be CHARACTER NAME | FANDOM | RESERVED/UNRESERVED. Put the OOC information in the first comment. Reply to that comment with the rest of the information or a link to your app.

OOC INFORMATION
NAME: It's you!
AGE: Are you older than 18 Y/N
PREFERRED CONTACT: Plurk? PM? Skype? Email? Whatever you want people to use
CHARACTERS IN GAME: Put N/A if this doesn't apply

IC INFORMATION
NAME: The character's name as well as important nicknames or aliases
AGE: If their appearance vastly differs from their age (the old "10-year-old is actually 1,000") then mention it
CANON: Just what it says! If you're an OC, just put Original. If you're specifically going with manga or anime or a mix of medias assuming no contradictions also note that
CANON POINT: This only applies for canon characters. Just a simple "Chapter 23", "Episode 50", "Pre-[Specific Boss Battle]" will be enough.
CANON INFORMATION: A link to a wiki, fan translations or whatever will give us the background of the canon/character you're apping. If you're apping an OC, please summarize the world they come from and their role in it.

PERSONALITY: What drives your character? What do they fear? What do they believe in? What makes them angry? What makes them happy? If they're a coward, tell us why. If they're obsessed with cooking, explain how that impacts their decisions. We ask for several solid paragraphs at least that cover what's truly important about and to your character.

ABILITIES: Keep it short and sweet. Mention if you're depowering anything for the game. If they have special talents you think are worth mentioning that would apply to the game - a knack for building, swimming, cooking, biology, anything - then also put that here.

INVENTORY: Just a list here will be fine. Includes pets and anything noteworthy or of interest. Things like the clothes they're wearing don't need to be here but if you wish to list them that's fine.

MEMORY ALTERATION: Here you should describe how their memories have been altered to make them believe they came here willingly, accidentally, or by force. It should be as detailed or as simple as you need it to be to explain their arrival. If you are collaborating with a canonmate or even a cross-canon friend, please note it here so that we know toes aren't being stepped on.

SAMPLE: Link a thread within the past six months. It should be about 15 comments from your character displaying both a solid grasp of the character's voice and introspection. If you wish, you can also write up a sample, as long as it displays both of the requirements.

Okay!

So, first off, I would like to request making an edit to the canon point. It's been some time since I've been neck-deep in Homestuck shit, so my understanding of time shenanigans has my head in a spin. John will be from the Act 6 Intermissions: specifically after his first year traveling on the Prospitian Battleship with Jade. So Act 6: Intermission 2. This means he is 14. I should have been more specific, I'm sorry guys.

Moving on with John's flaws!

As I mentioned in my main post, John is a bit naïve. Something that is pretty obvious from the very beginning of Act 1. This creates a passive nature that is consistent through his character growth. John seems to react to his surroundings in a very, very passive manner. I.E. despite knowing that the nature of SBURB has a very real effect on his universe, he doesn't seem to react to it as if the end of existence itself is right around the corner. While this hasn't necessarily created largely negative consequences, it suggests that he has a sort of sense of denial. If you were placed in an entirely foreign world, left to your own devices to only hope you can survive and create that grand prize to save the universe, wouldn't you... Oh, I don't know, make first priority to understand the mechanics of the game?

Yes. John barely knows the mechanics of the game. That hardly changes. It's made clear when John follows instructions on how to save Grimdark!Rose after she's mercilessly slaughtered by Bec Noir. He's given instructions by Vriska to kiss her and bring her back to life via Dreamself. A task that John blindly follows, and thank god it didn't lead the same direction Terezi had given him so early on in the game to face his Denizen at (literal) noob-status. John kisses Rose, brings her back, and seems to question the logic behind that with Karkat. Who proceeds to express how it blows his mind that John didn't even know a very simple mechanic that is used quite frequently in SBURB's movement.

Mind you, this happened well after Terezi misguided him. You would think after the scratch, John might become a bit more observant.

Now, this isn't to say that John is stupid. By no means. He has some air-headed qualities, but it's completely tied in to his absolutely pure, saturated positivity. SBURB is a game, yes. But a game with great power and influence on his existence. On the entire existence of everything. But John appears to mostly see it as a game. And only that. His idea that nothing could truly go wrong, because there can't possibly not be a way to win this game may suggest that he has a pretty hefty case of denial. His passive approach to the game is dangerous, considering that one wrong move could mean an ultimate loss for everyone. A risk, but not necessarily a failure in his character.

I would say that his passive, naïve nature does not necessarily impact his relationships negatively, per se. It seems like everyone who crosses John's path finds this an endearing trait of his. No one avoids making jabs at John's mentality, because he can handle being picked on and criticized pretty well. John is pretty aware of his optimism and passiveness, but he doesn't see the need to change it. His friends don't either. Everyone is in pretty solid agreement here that John is their leader, and a good one at that. Because of his qualities that seem to shine over a lot of their own complications. He's something to strive being, even if his positivity may or may not make him a bit empty-headed in a sense.

I hope that is enough! Fingers crossed!
