APPLICATIONS

PLAYER COUNT: 18/55

QUEUE

Subnautica runs on a player cap of 55 players as we feel this is the maximum number of players we can handle with this size of mod team. Applicants can submit at any time, but applications will not be judged until there are fewer than 55 players in the game. Applications will be judged on a first-come, first-serve basis. To be sure that applicants are still interested when a slot is available, we will contact them with a request to reply within 72 hours regarding their interest.

Please send us your application as a comment to this page! The subject line should be CHARACTER NAME | FANDOM | RESERVED/UNRESERVED. Put the OOC information in the first comment. Reply to that comment with the rest of the information or a link to your app.

OOC INFORMATION
NAME: It's you!
AGE: Are you older than 18 Y/N
PREFERRED CONTACT: Plurk? PM? Skype? Email? Whatever you want people to use
CHARACTERS IN GAME: Put N/A if this doesn't apply

IC INFORMATION
NAME: The character's name as well as important nicknames or aliases
AGE: If their appearance vastly differs from their age (the old "10-year-old is actually 1,000") then mention it
CANON: Just what it says! If you're an OC, just put Original. If you're specifically going with manga or anime or a mix of medias assuming no contradictions also note that
CANON POINT: This only applies for canon characters. Just a simple "Chapter 23", "Episode 50", "Pre-[Specific Boss Battle]" will be enough.
CANON INFORMATION: A link to a wiki, fan translations or whatever will give us the background of the canon/character you're apping. If you're apping an OC, please summarize the world they come from and their role in it.

PERSONALITY: What drives your character? What do they fear? What do they believe in? What makes them angry? What makes them happy? If they're a coward, tell us why. If they're obsessed with cooking, explain how that impacts their decisions. We ask for several solid paragraphs at least that cover what's truly important about and to your character.

ABILITIES: Keep it short and sweet. Mention if you're depowering anything for the game. If they have special talents you think are worth mentioning that would apply to the game - a knack for building, swimming, cooking, biology, anything - then also put that here.

INVENTORY: Just a list here will be fine. Includes pets and anything noteworthy or of interest. Things like the clothes they're wearing don't need to be here but if you wish to list them that's fine.

MEMORY ALTERATION: Here you should describe how their memories have been altered to make them believe they came here willingly, accidentally, or by force. It should be as detailed or as simple as you need it to be to explain their arrival. If you are collaborating with a canonmate or even a cross-canon friend, please note it here so that we know toes aren't being stepped on.

SAMPLE: Link a thread within the past six months. It should be about 15 comments from your character displaying both a solid grasp of the character's voice and introspection. If you wish, you can also write up a sample, as long as it displays both of the requirements.

IC INFORMATION
NAME: Peridot (Facet-2F5L Cut-5XG)
AGE: Exact age unknown, but she is likely several hundred (if not thousands) of years old.
CANON: Steven Universe
CANON POINT: Post-”Log Date 7 15 2”.
CANON INFORMATION: Wiki Link!

PERSONALITY: Peridot is a great believer in logic, reason, and rationality driving her decision making. For most of her existence, she's been a technician or scientist and this has impacted her greatly, leading her to focus on practicality when it comes to solving most of her problems.. She disdains decisions that she feels are made out of emotion. After all, if something is better based on facts, reason, and logic, why shouldn't it be the obvious choice? Despite her adhesion to this particular mode of thought, she isn't without emotion herself, which gives her a very strange dichotomy. She has a tendency to get over-emotional when put under stress – if she's afraid or angry, it'll show up in wide gestures, yelling, and facial expressions. The same thing tends to happen when she gets excited as well, although with less yelling. She'll simply go into a bit of an overdrive.

Peridot is also a know-it-all and more than a little full of herself (read: arrogant). She's very intelligent and has an excellent head for mathematics, science, and mechanics, but she extends her own expertise to everything around her. She thinks she knows more than everyone around her and this is often reflected in her talking down to people or treating them as if they're small children. She is also very blunt when it comes to expressing her opinion, since her opinion is very valuable (well, she think so, anyway). At the same time, she also has a great sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness and if she runs into something she doesn't understand or comprehend, she'll try to learn as much as she can using her own resources until she does understand it.

Despite her rather off-putting arrogance and ego, Peridot does care about people she grows close to and she has a deep sense of loyalty (which is partially a result of being raised in a culture that emphasizes loyalty to a supreme leader). She simply has a hard time expressing those emotions or comprehending that some of her actions and words might hurt others. If she's OK with it, why isn't everyone else? She's started to learn how to reign this part of herself in more recently, but with strangers and new companions, she's likely to still be just as arrogant and stand-offish until she gets to know them a bit better.

Peridot’s other main issue when it comes to actually getting friendly with people is her own stubborness. When she thinks she’s right, she thinks she’s right and it will take quite a bit of convincing (or good logic) to get her to change her mind - or to turn back from a cause or person she’s decided to throw her lot in with. Threats don’t always work. She does have a self-preservation/fear streak, but she’s not a complete coward. She’ll fight when she has to, but she’s very aware that fighting and combat are not what she’s made for and she will try to avoid a fight. If pressed, she’ll usually run and try to find an escape path. Fighting is reserved for when she’s pushed into a corner.

In the same vein, when something new, weird, and unexpected shows up, she can also react with fear. Especially if she thinks she’s surrounded by people or things who want to do her harm. This can lead her to be afraid of relatively common objects that she doesn’t entirely understand (like a toothbrush), but given time, she works past that sort of thing.

ABILITIES: Peridot has a list of abilities that are common to most gems.

1. A gem is a solid holographic projection emanating from their personal gemstone. This projection feels real and is able to interact with the world around it like a normal, solid person. However, when a gem takes damage to their “body” that would kill a person, they instead poof (literally) and have to take some time to reform their projection. This can be anywhere from a few minutes to weeks, depending on the gem.
If the gemstone of a gem is damaged or cracked, the gem’s projection will start to display faults and “errors”, such as pupil-less eyes. If a gem is shattered, the gem is killed.

2. Gems automatically adjust their personal gravity to match whatever planetoid they’re on, allow them to walk and move normally on the moon (or in a high gravity environment, presumably).

3. Gems can emanate light from their gemstones, reminiscent of a flashlight, to provide personal lighting. Some gems can even display images from their memories using this method (Peridot has not demonstrated the ability to display images).

4. Most gems seem to have a personal weapon or tool that they can summon from their gemstones. Peridot’s has yet to appear and might not have one.

5. Gems do not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, but can if they choose.

6. Most gems can shapeshift. They can assume the forms of other creatures (such as animals) or inanimate objects (like car-seats). They can also change their personal appearance (clothing, etc) and size. Holding a major shapeshift, such as turning into another person, for a great length of time is tiring and may inflict damage on the gem if held for too long. Personal clothing does not seem to wear them out.

In addition, Peridot is very intelligent. She has a very logical, scientific mind and knows quite a bit about many subjects. She knows how to operate most gem machinery (and some Earth machines), as well as having a good head for mechanics. She’s able to assist in building a drill out of materials found on Earth and is able to jury-rig repairs to other machines (or at least attempt them). She also has an excellent memory (she was able to remember, identify, and repeat the musical scale on a ukulele after hearing it once).

INVENTORY:
Personal tape recorder.

MEMORY ALTERATION: As far as Peridot is concerned, she woke up here, although it’s partially because she’s trying to stay away from the sight of Homeworld and the Crystal Gems totally thought that this was a good idea. Underwater works for that, right?
