PLAYER COUNT: 18/55

QUEUE

Subnautica runs on a player cap of 55 players as we feel this is the maximum number of players we can handle with this size of mod team. Applicants can submit at any time, but applications will not be judged until there are fewer than 55 players in the game. Applications will be judged on a first-come, first-serve basis. To be sure that applicants are still interested when a slot is available, we will contact them with a request to reply within 72 hours regarding their interest.

Please send us your application as a comment to this page! The subject line should be CHARACTER NAME | FANDOM | RESERVED/UNRESERVED. Put the OOC information in the first comment. Reply to that comment with the rest of the information or a link to your app.

OOC INFORMATION
NAME: It's you!
AGE: Are you older than 18 Y/N
PREFERRED CONTACT: Plurk? PM? Skype? Email? Whatever you want people to use
CHARACTERS IN GAME: Put N/A if this doesn't apply

IC INFORMATION
NAME: The character's name as well as important nicknames or aliases
AGE: If their appearance vastly differs from their age (the old "10-year-old is actually 1,000") then mention it
CANON: Just what it says! If you're an OC, just put Original. If you're specifically going with manga or anime or a mix of medias assuming no contradictions also note that
CANON POINT: This only applies for canon characters. Just a simple "Chapter 23", "Episode 50", "Pre-[Specific Boss Battle]" will be enough.
CANON INFORMATION: A link to a wiki, fan translations or whatever will give us the background of the canon/character you're apping. If you're apping an OC, please summarize the world they come from and their role in it.

PERSONALITY: What drives your character? What do they fear? What do they believe in? What makes them angry? What makes them happy? If they're a coward, tell us why. If they're obsessed with cooking, explain how that impacts their decisions. We ask for several solid paragraphs at least that cover what's truly important about and to your character.

ABILITIES: Keep it short and sweet. Mention if you're depowering anything for the game. If they have special talents you think are worth mentioning that would apply to the game - a knack for building, swimming, cooking, biology, anything - then also put that here.

INVENTORY: Just a list here will be fine. Includes pets and anything noteworthy or of interest. Things like the clothes they're wearing don't need to be here but if you wish to list them that's fine.

MEMORY ALTERATION: Here you should describe how their memories have been altered to make them believe they came here willingly, accidentally, or by force. It should be as detailed or as simple as you need it to be to explain their arrival. If you are collaborating with a canonmate or even a cross-canon friend, please note it here so that we know toes aren't being stepped on.

SAMPLE: Link a thread within the past six months. It should be about 15 comments from your character displaying both a solid grasp of the character's voice and introspection. If you wish, you can also write up a sample, as long as it displays both of the requirements.

IC INFORMATION
NAME: "Stiles" Stilinski (real first name unknown)
AGE: 17
CANON: Teen Wolf
CANON POINT: Post-s5e10
CANON INFORMATION: Wiki

PERSONALITY:
On the final question of an Economics midterm exam, Stiles took it upon himself to unnecessarily detail the entire history of male circumcision. As far as introductions to a character go, this may seem like a bizarre anecdote to open with, but it is an apt one. Simply put, Stiles Stilinski is a weird kid. Though intellectually gifted, he struggles to channel interest toward conventional or societally acceptable topics. While this is in part due to diagnosed ADHD—which makes it difficult for him to concentrate—the fact remains that Stiles is drawn to the strange, the inexplicable, and the morbid. Pivotal events leading to the onset of the show’s plot were only made possible on account of his perverse curiosity; on the night of a full moon, he insisted on entering the woods to search for a young woman’s corpse. The lower half of her body had been discovered by hikers previously, with the upper half still missing. Since that night, Stiles has lost much of his naïve, boyish enthusiasm for similarly gruesome activities; being in near constant mortal peril has put things into perspective for him. Despite the change in attitude however, the supernatural company he keeps ensures that Stiles continues to be involved in the fantastical goings-on of Beacon Hills. And he prefers to stay involved. The reason for this is twofold.

Firstly: Stiles requires the mental stimulation. He is never as focused as he is when studying taboo subjects such as homicides, druidic magic, or (lest we forget) male circumcision. The unnatural and impossible aspects of our world fascinate him; Stiles hungers to understand the whys and hows. Subsequently, loose ends and unanswered questions nettle him to the point of provoking obsessive bouts of research. He has a knack for problem solving and gains great gratification from unraveling complicated mysteries. These skills are unfortunately underutilized in the mundane scenarios that typically comprise a teenage boy’s day-to-day. A teacher of his remarks that, in spite of being “super smart, [Stiles] never takes advantage of his talents.” This is true, at least in terms of academics. A school setting fails to challenge his intelligence, cunning, and creativity the way that the supernatural elements do. He’s addicted.

Secondly: Stiles wants to protect people, especially his father. As the son of a sheriff, he has grown up intimately familiar with the due process of law. Sheriff Stilinski’s duty is to maintain peace. The existence of supernatural creatures more often than not threatens the stability of the community, which the sheriff is sworn to protect. Therefore Stiles voluntarily hurtles headfirst into danger to resolve cases before they can be elevated to the police and potentially imperil his father. In fact, Stiles has even sacrificed his own life in a ritual to rescue Sheriff Stilinski—a ritual that primed him to later be possessed by a demonic spirit. With regard to the larger community, Stiles hopes to follow in the sheriff’s footsteps; he wants to become someone whom people can depend on. Except Stiles practices a vastly different approach to upholding the greater good than his father.

He operates on a scale of gray morality, skirting the line between neutral good and true neutral. In general, Stiles agrees with the philosophies of “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” and “the ends justify the means.” Accordingly, underhanded methods are a specialty of his when dealing with beings who possess inhuman strength and speed. Stiles will leverage every advantage he can. During the show, he has demonstrated a readiness to lie, steal, vandalize, trespass, etc. As long as it will ultimately aid those in need, petty crime is acceptable to him. And thus far, Stiles has yet to regret any unethical choice he has made. They were all necessary, he would say. Of course, this hardly implies that he harbors no guilt over those choices. What his head knows to be true is doubted by his heart, because even if he understands that justice cannot always be delivered via heroism, he wishes it could be.

That wish segues to the next facet of his personality: Stiles’ insecurities. Buried under cynicism and humor, he nurses a destructive inferiority complex. Being the only human in a group of extraordinary friends has its pros and cons, though he is quick to forget the former when the latter is so apparent. He compares himself unconsciously to his best friend, Scott McCall. Together they have saved Beacon Hills on countless occasions. Yet Stiles considers himself as little more than a sidekick in these endeavors. During battle with supernatural foes, he’s relegated to the sidelines for his own safety while friends risk life and limb fighting. Here is the bottom line: Stiles is unable to play on the same playing field. Not only has this damaged his self-esteem, but it has also sparked a sense of guilt in him.

Life wasn’t always so unbalanced for Stiles. From the time they were children until just over a year ago, he and Scott were equals in virtually every way. They both came from broken homes, suffered from disruptive conditions (ADHD and asthma respectively), were physically unimposing, and socially unpopular. All that they had was each other. This changed when Scott was bitten by a werewolf, which granted him impressive abilities and, in turn, earned him the admiration of classmates. Scott got a girlfriend. Scott became co-captain of the lacrosse team. Scott was a hero. Predictably, Stiles felt left behind. A strong, genuine love for Scott as a brother has prevented these insecurities from bubbling over into jealousy. But instead, Stiles has resigned himself to living vicariously through his best friend. He’s content to soak up Scott’s triumphs secondhand while viciously defending those triumphs from anyone who might threaten them. The internal conflict he bears rarely is visible on the surface.

And this is because Stiles is effective when deflecting from emotional issues. Sarcasm is his first, second, and third line of defense—against disapproving parental figures to high school bullies to supernatural baddies. Stiles runs his mouth like a child who has just learned the word “no.” Intentionally obnoxious and loud, he knows how to distract people. His humor ranges from the inappropriately cheeky to the darkly wry to the gently lighthearted. Upon a first meeting, many might assume that he is incapable of taking anything seriously. This is false. While he is indeed a playful individual, the majority of his antics stem from a desperate need to detract from his own anxiety. It is a coping mechanism, and one he keeps up until he is alone. “I’m fine” is a flagrant lie that Stiles has uttered far too often. He would much rather dance around his myriad of issues than actually address them. This avoidant nature is rooted in his aforementioned insecurities. Stiles doesn’t want to cause trouble for his overworked father, who already worries incessantly about him. Where friends are concerned, Stiles doesn’t believe that he has the right to complain. So he deflects.

Season five of Teen Wolf finally pushed him beyond the boundary of his questionable coping mechanisms. Since his mother died, he has been prone to panic attacks. Possession by the Nogitsune afforded him a taste of how intoxicating lack of control can feel, however. And so, without a healthy outlet, his neuroses have manifested as rage. In the past, he could be frustrating to provoke; insults and threats would be shrugged off with self-deprecating amusement. This is no longer true. His anger now is both explosive and violent. The trauma of a lifetime has built up to a breaking point; it will only worsen until he learns for forgive himself—forgive himself for not being able to save everyone, for not being able to be everywhere, for not being able to predict everything. Essentially, Stiles needs to learn to forgive himself for being human.

Anger and sarcasm aside, Stiles possesses a powerful empathy. He reads people well and is able to see them for who they truly are—an intuition that has shocked those on the receiving end of it. As a child, he recognized Lydia Martin’s incredible intelligence and drive behind her self-imposed “mean girl” façade. Stiles has accurately identified each villain pretending to be an ally. Even when friends dismissed his suspicions about Theo Raeken’s character, he continued to keep an eye on the other young man. He has a good gut for these things, despite the fact that no one ever believes him until too late. Perhaps due to this, Stiles can be slow to trust. Benefiting from exceptional empathy does not mean that he also benefits from any sense of sympathy, after all. While he may be able to pick up on someone’s underlying nature and motivations, he only reserves compassion for those who he feels are deserving of it. Enemies do not often make the cut, including victimized teenagers his age.

Those he does feel compassion for are treated with a sincere warmth. Remember: Stiles wants to help people—he just isn’t swayed by the backgrounds of tragic villains. His loyalty, though hard won, is selfless through and through. There is little he would not do for a loved one. He values the lives of friends and family far above his own; Stiles has offered his own life in their place numerous times. Bleak situations are tackled with an unflinching courage if he’s protecting someone. When the barrel of a gun was pressed to his forehead, he merely closed his eyes and waited to die, refusing to give up Scott’s location. When Scott was distraught and on the verge of committing suicide via fire, Stiles stepped into the pool of gasoline and embraced him. And when they were struggling to defeat the Nogitsune, he encouraged his friends to kill him if they had the chance. This extreme devotion has nothing to do with a lack of self-worth—it has to do with the strength of his heart.
ABILITIES: Stiles has no inhuman or supernatural powers. He does, however, have a talent for puzzle-solving, logical reasoning, and strategic planning. When a subject interests him, he’s also an avid researcher.

INVENTORY: Only a smartphone, no charger

MEMORY ALTERATION: Stiles remembers that he was seated in the ER waiting room, anxious to hear about his father’s condition. The next he knows, he’s waking up on Iniidae. He thinks that he must have nodded off in the waiting room at some point, only to somehow become drawn into another Dread Doctor-inspired hallucination.

SAMPLE: Musebox thread and game thread. Note: The game thread is older than 6 months (it’s 7 months), but I wanted to provide an example of Stiles acting more negatively in social interactions.
