URSULA is usually available for brief contact. Consider this her inbox. Although she may be busy ICly doing something at the time, she can usually spare some time to answer something.

Alternately, you can link to a thread where she is being called upon. Note that she may ignore these calls or contacts dependent on her mood. Don't worry if she ignores you once or twice, as she will sometimes comment on open posts or make broadcasts to everyone.

If any players wish to contact Naoko and her group, they are free to use this page. URSULA. I am sorry to interrupt. [Given the return to the monolith, the way the water had felt in the dream, Horō's suspicions are mounting.]

For some time, I've been vexed by a fear that I might one day become no better than the foe I pursue.

[She's not sure where that fear originates, but it's heavy. She respects URSULA for her library of knowledge and her dedication to keeping them safe and her sense of humor. Unable to shake the sense of insecurity, she can't think of anyone else to ask.]

URSULA, are we invaders?

[ This takes URSULA a moment to answer. Not because she intends to lie, because she is at heart a very honest program, but because it's such a difficult question. ]

Horō, do you know a great deal about human history? I wondered that question once... so I asked a crew member. He told me to read a book! I was perplexed by such a strange answer. But I did. I read many books about human history and culture. I found out something very, very sad and... surprising. I found out humans are not a very united species. In fact... [ She hesitates again and lowers her voice. ] Humans are not united at all. To just say 'humans', as though they're as driven and similar as a group of tigers, is... wrong. A group of tigers would never... commit the same sort of atrocities as a group of humans, I think.

[ It flusters her and she metaphorically clears her throat before moving on. ]

I'm sorry. That must not be an answer. But I don't know if I have one. It turns out this is much more complicated than I once thought. What do you think?

[Her face falls as she thinks this one through, frown muted and worried. It's complicated, but less so on the surface, despite all the words it takes to build the construct. She knows there hasn't been a single period in human history in which men weren't engaged in some kind of war or another...and the opponents haven't always been demons.]

I think a tiger can just as easily be harmed by those atrocities of which they have no comprehension.

Nature is quite fragile. Do you not have apprehensions that we might one day bleed the planet dry?

[ URSULA thinks it over. ]

I suppose... My concern is always the people, humanity, first and foremost. I do understand. After all, while humans have destroyed many environments, things like zoos and preservation acts exist to make amends. It's nothing humanity wants to ruin. But what if you can only pick one?

You also have pledged your life to humanity, haven't you?

[Neither of those things are things she knows. She wonders if there are other differences between the humanity she knows and the humanity URSULA is familiar with.]

Of course I have. I knew I must be a slayer in order to prevent the extinction of the world. There are too many foods I have yet to experience. I could not let humanity be extinguished.

[Is that really the same thing...? Her face falls.]

I have never experienced harmony. Is such a thing really impossible, even without the Oni?

I wish I knew, too. I like to think so, though. It would be very sad to think our efforts won't result in peace, don't you think?
