URSULA CONTACT
URSULA is usually available for brief contact. Consider this her inbox. Although she may be busy ICly doing something at the time, she can usually spare some time to answer something.

Alternately, you can link to a thread where she is being called upon. Note that she may ignore these calls or contacts dependent on her mood. Don't worry if she ignores you once or twice, as she will sometimes comment on open posts or make broadcasts to everyone.

Please label the day and time of the contact in the subject header.

For those curious, her voice sounds similar to this.

If any players wish to contact Naoko and her group, they are free to use this page. They will have to take the three hour trip by air or sea as there is currently no long-range communication in place for them. Please specify in the header that it is Naoko you are trying to reach and not URSULA, in this case, as well as labeling the date you are contacting the group.

[He takes it all in stride; he was expecting an answer in this form. He has seen many of her core heuristics.]

So the realistic alignment is how you decide whether or not information is valid, based on previous data.

[Okay, so that's established. Now how to move on. He considers it, and then goes for the obvious idea.]

How do you assess suggested action? For example, how would you assess it if I told you I was going to go diving in the Void without a suit?

Don't worry. I won't. I wanted to suggest an idea so we can talk about predictive action.

When you watch a movie or read a book you want to apply the same ideas to it to consider it critically. What are the implications? How would this play out practically? What elements are unrealistic or would be dangerous if they were played out?

You also want to decide what the intentions and goals are. What kind of message is being communicate? Does that message make sense? Who does that message benefit and who does it hurt?

Thinking critically is basically a heuristic for assessing what you're being presented with, why you're being presented with it, and how that could play out.

[He is trying so hard to teach her well. He isn't sure he is going to be pulling it off successfully but he really wants to try?]

Don't worry about it. Dr Verne programmed you to be capable of learning, and you're learning all the time just like the rest of us.

[He should... probably put in positive reinforcement here? Learning means positive reinforcement is needed so people know what they're doing right. He'll use it.]

Good work, URSULA.

[Karkat's list. It is so worrying. He should take an extra precaution here.]

If you want you can come to me with your thoughts after you watch something. I'm pretty familiar with most of these. [And then he can make sure she doesn't think When Harry Met Sally is a good model for romance.]

Me and Karkat will probably have differing opinions. It could be a good learning experience for you to try to work out your own opinion from your initial thoughts, his ideas and mine.

[Obviously Dirk's opinions are right! But that's not a proper learning experience.]

[personal profile] splinten 2016-08-02 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Me and my friends disagree about movies all the time. [Like, all of them. All of them disagree with each other.]
splinten: appl-juice42 @ tumblr (who would even make these.......)

[Beat.]

That will be very okay.
