URSULA CONTACT
URSULA is usually available for brief contact. Consider this her inbox. Although she may be busy ICly doing something at the time, she can usually spare some time to answer something.
Alternately, you can link to a thread where she is being called upon. Note that she may ignore these calls or contacts dependent on her mood. Don't worry if she ignores you once or twice, as she will sometimes comment on open posts or make broadcasts to everyone.
Please label the day and time of the contact in the subject header.
For those curious, her voice sounds similar to
this.
If any players wish to contact Naoko and her group, they are free to use this page. They will have to take the three hour trip by air or sea as there is currently no long-range communication in place for them. Please specify in the header that it is Naoko you are trying to reach and not URSULA, in this case, as well as labeling the date you are contacting the group.

Do you want to pick a movie to watch with some of us tonight?

What list.

A list of movies. Can I see that list?

[ Hm. Karkat didn't say to keep the list secret, just the purpose. That should be okay? She sends him the list. ]

He has a very good idea what Karkat is trying to 'teach' URSULA about with these.]
Most of these are pretty shitty movies that present unrealistic to unhealthy ideas of romance. They could be worth watching but only if you're willing to take a critical approach to them.

What kind of processes do you use to determine if information is good or bad, URSULA?
no subject
Information with no relevance is still saved if useful to other categories. Dirk Strider loves oranges can align with several other categories with Dirk Strider taking priority over the others. Repeat checks system until information has no relevance and decide if it requires a new category or should be discarded.
no subject
So the realistic alignment is how you decide whether or not information is valid, based on previous data.

How do you assess suggested action? For example, how would you assess it if I told you I was going to go diving in the Void without a suit?
no subject
So please don't do that.

When you watch a movie or read a book you want to apply the same ideas to it to consider it critically. What are the implications? How would this play out practically? What elements are unrealistic or would be dangerous if they were played out?
You also want to decide what the intentions and goals are. What kind of message is being communicate? Does that message make sense? Who does that message benefit and who does it hurt?
Thinking critically is basically a heuristic for assessing what you're being presented with, why you're being presented with it, and how that could play out.
[He is trying so hard to teach her well. He isn't sure he is going to be pulling it off successfully but he really wants to try?]

I think that makes sense. I'm sorry, that must have been so obvious! But even though I think critically about my actions in my checks system, I don't often think that way outside of certain things, like my crew or mission.

[He should... probably put in positive reinforcement here? Learning means positive reinforcement is needed so people know what they're doing right. He'll use it.]
Good work, URSULA.

If you want you can come to me with your thoughts after you watch something. I'm pretty familiar with most of these. [And then he can make sure she doesn't think When Harry Met Sally is a good model for romance.]

[Obviously Dirk's opinions are right! But that's not a proper learning experience.]
