URSULA CONTACT
URSULA is usually available for brief contact. Consider this her inbox. Although she may be busy ICly doing something at the time, she can usually spare some time to answer something.
Alternately, you can link to a thread where she is being called upon. Note that she may ignore these calls or contacts dependent on her mood. Don't worry if she ignores you once or twice, as she will sometimes comment on open posts or make broadcasts to everyone.
Please label the day and time of the contact in the subject header.
For those curious, her voice sounds similar to
this.
If any players wish to contact Naoko and her group, they are free to use this page. They will have to take the three hour trip by air or sea as there is currently no long-range communication in place for them. Please specify in the header that it is Naoko you are trying to reach and not URSULA, in this case, as well as labeling the date you are contacting the group.

I do have a few projects I've been working on that you can look over if you want. [ She takes out her datapad and starts transferring them to Dirk. ] They're for this intelligent underwater capable drone. I wanted him to be able to withstand long-term stays on hostile planets to take samples and study where humans can't while being independent in his actions.
[ She brushes back her hair as it finishes transferring. ]
I know you cut NEMO, excuse me, LARA off but I guess I don't mind if you have any thoughts later on the code here.
[ Look she is pretty starved for positive attention to her work. She'll overlook a lot right now. ]
no subject
He opens up the transfer with his shades. It's really interesting to him, and he's able to piece it together as he watches.]
This is pretty cool. I'll take a detailed look while you two talk.
[He just... waves a goodbye (look he doesn't know much in terms of social stuff) and goes to find a nice place to sit, away from the talking, while he looks the code over.]
no subject
I am going to just say outright that I'm not here to gossip about coding or whatever, even though that is a thing I am totally interested in and can do.
[ hint hint. ] I want you to tell me about the war.
no subject
That's quite a topic change. All right, the short of it is we're losing and making a tactic retreat through the universe. This planet is one of the ones chosen to become a fortress. It could be a safe place to live.
[ She pauses, glancing back at the jungle before doing air quotes. ]
"Safe."
no subject
If you ignore the fact that everything seems to want to kill us then yeah, sure. Safe. [ he scratches his head. ] Although I guess none of the people from the... I can't even bother to pretend like I remember the name of your group. Anyway, I guess it's not like they'd know this place is fucked up since everyone keeps dying here without getting to tell anyone.
[ hm. he doesn't want her to get suspicious about where he got any information from though, so... ] Safe from what, exactly? And why did you all assume this shit stain safe to life compared to other ones?
no subject
Like us, yes. [ She's speaking like someone who has dealt with a lot of protests on the matter. ] If we weren't desperate, we'd leave it alone. It's not sentient the way we are, so we can't communicate with it. We're not going to beat it into submission. We plan to take the smallest section possible for survival and leave the rest.
[ She messes with a strand of her hair. ] If we can't stop the Kharaa, which I believe we can't, then we need somewhere to hide from them. Since we're in the ocean, think of it like those little fish that swim under sharks to stay safe. Not the most glorious life but it's something.
no subject
So you're completely sure the Kharaa would leave this place alone then? I'd prefer not to step outside one day to find out we're getting invaded.
[ there is irony in there but he is not going to share that. ]

mega cannons? karkat isn't really sure how much of that info he wants to share with naoko though. ]
How would someone turn this planet against the universe anyway? I get that it's alive and giving us all a headache, but what would that do against everyone else?
no subject
[ Naoko shifts her weight, arms folded. ]
This planet is alive with powerful magic, whether or not the things on it are alive. For us that means nothing. We would use some of its sentient abilities to protect us, like its ability to destroy anything that comes near it. But imagine if you could direct this planet. If you outfitted it for warp space and travel. Just bring it close to a threat and the threat is gone. That sure would be the end of most intelligent species. We have guns, big ones, but nothing that can destroy a planet like this. We'd have to surrender and so would anything else the Kharaa chose to point it at.
no subject
Do you think they'd be able to do something like that? It seems kind of a stupidly complicated job.
no subject
no subject
Well, if they ever show up I give you full permission to just blow my head off. I won't even bitch about it while you do it.
[ hm, what else. ] What do they look like anyway?
[ URSULA told him about what they do with host bodies, but he's wondering if there's any type of marker that would be able to distinguish someone who's under kharaa control from someone who isn't. ]
no subject
Sure thing. And they're microscopic but where they gather it looks like moss or algae. You know you're in trouble when you can actually see them. They build up bases fast as long as they have hosts.
no subject
[ they'd have a whole different set of problems on a desert planet though so. ]
Uh. Th...anks for the info? [ he sounds like he is not used to actually telling people thank you lmao. ] Two more things though. One, do you know anything about some crystals on this planet? And I actually have another present for you that Dirk insisted I gave you instead of him just handing it over himself?
[ he shoots dirk an annoyed glance but!! whatever!! ]

[ he takes another box out of his sylladex, a lot smaller than the other ones holding the rest of the items. ]
This creepy nurse lady made a vaccine for it and Dirk wanted you to have it. You know, just in case.
no subject
You can... create a vaccine. I shouldn't ask how, should I? At least you're not living in total squalor like I thought. But thank you. I'll make sure to tell the others about it and instruct them.
[ She smiles at little. ]
You're not so bad for a loud teenage alien.
no subject
I... guess... I mean. Yes? Obviously I'm not. Fuck. Okay, that's all I'm just going to go over there with Dick Strider now bye.
[ he does the most pathetic goodbye wave in the world before hurrying over to where dirk is HE'S EMBARRASSED ]
no subject
Did he give you the vaccine?
[He feels he should check on that before going further!
Even though he absolutely heard it because he is a shit and listened in on the conversation. RIP.]
no subject
I guess you didn't need someone to watch over you after all.
no subject
[So it all worked out.]
I have something else for you, but I don't trust Karkat with anything that comes down to zeroes and ones. [He sends the file: Naoko's Catsume.]
I would have given you Creepvine and Instaclam too, but you wouldn't be able to exchange anything with us. Unless you think the other people on your base would be interested.
no subject
Hm? Oh, Jenn would love them. She's bored to death out here without anyone her age.
no subject
[He sends those over as well. He's glad Naoko likes her Catsume, he guesses?]
We have plans for setting up relays for radio signals across a wider scope. We're hoping it will help us find any stray survivors or arrivals of our kind that are too far off. Are you interested in having that as a line of contact for us?
no subject
Yes, that would be grand. Have you figured out how people from other universes are arriving on this planet?
