[ oh my god dirk. dave reaches up again, but this time he turns his hand palm up, waiting for dirk to...take it or ignore him, he guesses. he speaks in english again because he's pretty sure his lessons don't cover talking someone down in kharaa. or, well, he could do that, but dirk wouldn't. catch most of it. ]

Same question as before, Dirk, just less hypothetical. Do you trust me? [ or is it only in the hypothetical sense? he uses dirk's name instead of bro or dude or man or any of the various epithets he attaches to his brother when he's around.

Shit yeah we brought more candy. I got some new types? The like, candy-making people back home have been going crazy with it all in celebration. I'm actually not sure what the flavor of some of them are because they're made from fruits not from my home planet, but there's this one that kinda tastes like cherry stuff? Also, we brought some music stuff and a twister mat. You guys don't know what twister is, right? It's a game I thought you might like, and we can have a tournament? Also, while Dirk may not have gotten that, he definitely made Dave teach him the Kharaa for 'Sporty Spice' before they got here.

Since he is just a dude who mostly doesn't speak the language hanging around hoping not to get possessed, he keeps mostly quiet and keeps an eye out on the souls as they move around, presumably crowding Dave for sugary confectionaries.]

[ Dirk is right in the fact that they are, indeed, crowding around Dave for snacks. Some of them are even drinking apple juice to wash the candy down because Dave has had way too much of an influence on them. ]

Sporty Spice isn't a host, it's like, a special prize title. You know how I gave you all names? It's a name only the winner of Twister can use for a bit. It just means you did something really well in the game.

This is my brother, Dirk. He's the one I talked about introducing you to, yeah. He won't hurt you. [ unless you like attack him but dave would kind of take offense to that too so w/e not worth bringing up. ] He made you the music equipment I brought along - some mixing gear that you guys can use, he made it based on specifications re your biology so like, you'll be able to do it pretty easy I think? So you have line dancing music.

[ he nudges dirk in the side. SHOW THEM YOUR PRESENT, DIRK. ]

[Dirk drops the turntables out of his sylladex and puts it on the ground for them. It's been specially modified to work with the different kinds of hosts the Kharaa has, as Dave promised, so there was a shift in emphasis on foot pads to let them control the music and other modifications to suit their hosts. Also, the speakers are wicked cool.]

[ The Kharaa look from Dirk, to the turntables, then back at Dave. It takes them a few seconds, but they all come to the decision that Dave has not harmed them so far, so they all swarm to the turntables in order to check out their new gift. ]

[ They have no idea how to use this thing. They are, however, intelligent enough with technology that it shouldn't take them too long to figure out. For now just enjoy them happily buzzing around it. ]

he might have mentioned that to dirk. he's not sure. but like, it would be. a step in the right direction if they could get past the "okay so do you want to meet more people who will be friends and do cool stuff with you and not be hosts but also not shoot you or anything" part.

He's also gonna do twister with us because we don't know which of us is more flexible but two-person twister is kind of boring? Anyway Dirk this is P Diddy, he's the guy I met first. [ HE MAY PAUSE TO RATTLE OFF THE NAMES OF ALL THE OTHER KHARAA IN THE VICINITY even though dave is pretty sure they think his habit of giving everyone names is weird since they don't even really have a species name for themselves. ]

[Watching them, Dirk becomes convinced that they are collectively in the infant state, or at least have been cut off from sufficiently mature members of the hivemind and so are undergoing a unique development. Because seriously.]

[ It takes a moment, but then P Diddy makes his way over to Dirk. He holds out an arm to Dirk in the universally known fistbump gesture.

[ dave figures dirk can handle this on his own and starts explaining as an aside about how turntable footpumps work so the other kharaa can make music. and also probably he is still handing out candy. ]

[Dirk really, really hopes that no one is going to have to deal with another dead Strider. Or a terrible zombie apocalypse version of a Strider, whatever.

But he goes for a solid fist bump. A bro cannot leave a bro hanging, even if it might be death.]

Granted, he is definitely not as relaxed with this bump as he is with when he does it with Dave, like he is still waiting for Dirk to attempt to like... kill him, or something? For some reason humans keep doing that? Why won't they just submit easily, geez. ]

Sometimes he has a hard time picking out which screech Dave is making. He did at least pick up the holiday Dave's talking about? Because obviously he would have asked Dave to tell him what he'd use for it, in terms of screeches. So he has to give his input in English.]
